April is a great month and we celebrate it by having one of the strongest voices in town as our artist in residence: pianist and composer Anders Filipsen.
for several years he has been releasing consistently great albums on the ILK label with such bands as The White Nothing, The Black Nothing and Traveling Tribes. He has combined a very personal style of writing with a completely free approach to improvising and is one of the most intuitive pianists in Denmark. For his residency he has assembled 4 very special groups that you can only hear at mandagsklubben.
please note that from now on the artists in residence will only do one set from 9-10 pm. this is an attempt at trimming down the program a little so we can have more bands before it gets too late... there will still be at least 4 bands each night, sometimes 5 at you will be able to hear amazing music until way past midnight.

Tomasz Dabrowski - Trumpet

we begin the evening with a free concert. and by free we mean no covercharge. Tomasz Dabrowski is releasing his first solo trumpet album and invites everybody to come and celebrate this with a free solo concert. Dabrowski is a very strong player and has performed at mandagsklubben many times. He is a member of the collective Barefoot records and is the most exiting trumpet player to emerge from Poland in the past decade.

Søren Gemmer has been working on a serious level for years and is by now one of the most exiting pianists of the younger generation. He writes great music and is a wonderful improvisor known from his work in Reverse, his own trio and quartet and from different groups involving Mads Lacour. Here he teams up with one of Denmarks most persistent composers and improvisors, the amazing flutist and saxist Thomas Agergaard. expect duo communication on the highest level

For his first residency concert at mandagsklubben the brilliant pianist and composer Anders Filipsen has assembled a trio of heavyweights among the younger player in town. Greve is a monster improvisor and has released many albums. he is known for his solo work, his work with Girls in Airports, his duo with Kresten Osgood and his trio with Håkon Berre and Peter Friis Nielsen, to name a few. Mads Emil Nielsen is a fantastic drummer who now mostly works with electronics and has created his own very personal relationship with the machines. his duos with Adam Pultz Melbye and Anders Holst are a must and his solo work has been a game changer.

For LSD (Lindborg, Sjöstedt & Daniel), the trio feels like a three-headed beast when they play together. One organism, one unit and a diabolic swing. The music is soft and beautiful, ugly and raw. It is catchy and explosive, it is sincere and soulful. when Sonny Rollins heard their music he famously said: "I enjoyed it"
