THE ROLLING STONES PROJECT RETURNS TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM
After the forthcoming Rolling Stones concert in Warsaw, Poland this coming Summer, some of their musicians will be heading directly to Copenhagen for another run of shows for us at the National Museum. Last they were here in October the ticket demand was so high that the entire ticket system crashed (we are better prepared this time, so it shouldn't happen again!). Once again, the tenor saxophonist with the Rolling Stones for the past 19 years, Mr. Tim Ries, will be the musical master of ceremonies as he guides us on a journey through his compelling and poetic renditions of the iconic Stones songs. As always with the RSP gigs, you never know until the very last minute what the exact line-up will be, but we do already know that the Rolling Stones back vocalist, Mr. Bernard Fowler, will take part. He is an incredible lead singer in his own right and we are very excited about his arrival here....

The world's greatest rock n'roll band has always had a close association with the jazz world. Their drummer Charlie Watts was a local London jazz drummer before joining the Rolling Stones and has since released his own jazz albums with small groups as well as big bands. Other great jazz artists and current long time members of the Rolling Stones include Darryl Jones (former bassist of Miles Davis) and Tim Ries (one of New York City's most prominent tenor saxophonists) among others. Sax giant Sonny Rollins even appeared on the 1981 Rolling Stones album Tatoo You and another jazz icon, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, appeared on their 1997 album Bridges To Babylon.
The Rolling Stones tenor saxophist, Tim Ries, spearheads an initiative to occasionally perform intimate concerts in smaller venues right after the band's regular arena shows, with a repertoire concept he created called The Rolling Stones Project consisting of jazz renditions of classic Rolling Stones songs. In these events band members like Bernard Fowler, Darryl Jones and Lisa Fisher have often been heard with local artists invited to join in.
Following the Rolling Stones concert in Warsaw, Poland on July 8th, concerts with The Rolling Stones Project will be hosted by the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective and held at the National Museum of Denmark - as part of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2018.
Shows are at the National Museum of Denmark, Ny Vestergade 10, DK 1471 Copenhagen K.
Dates & times:
July 12: 6 PM and 8:30 PM
July 13: 6 PM and 8:30 PM
Concert duration is 75 min without intermission. Doors open 30 minutes before concert begins.
