Stella Chiweshe
Stella Chiweshe is probably Zimbabwe's internationally most prolific performer, being a prominent star in the 1.0 days of "World Music" in the 1980es and early 1990es. Since then, things have been getting a bit quiet around her, which is currently changing for good, since Stella is still a breathtakingly powerful and highly spiritual performer. Her traditional "Mbira" music (the word is categorizing the instrument, the style and an entire culture) is a medium to establish contact with the spirits of the deceased ancestors and thus also able to bring about community among the listeners. In September 2018, Glitterbeat released Stella Chiweshe's long-expected new album "Kasahwa", a collection of her early African singles. We’re very proud to present her for the first time at ALICE this November....

Les Filles de Illighadad
Future Tuareg music from the female led avant-rock group Les Filles de Illighadad. Mixing traditional percussion with electric guitars, Les Filles brings ancient village folk music into the modern era. Drawing on traditional tende music, the forgotten inspiration of Tuareg guitar, Fatou and Les Filles breathe new life into the genre. Hypnotic guitar riffs, driving rhythm, and polyphonic resonant vocals combine to create organic sound, that is both timeless and natural. A wholly original project, from a band that just a few years back had never left their village. Les Filles de Illighadad have played wonderful concerts at both Global and ALICE, and we’re happy to present them on a double bill with Stella Chiweshe.
Læs mere om vores COVID-19 tiltag her.
Stella Chiweshe
