NIELS LAN DOKY INTERNATIONAL JAZZ COLLECTIVE
AT LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (FALL 2020)
“Jazz/Takes” (jazz renditions) of 1970s New York Punk, 1980s U.K. New Wave and 1990s Seattle Grunge - feat. Alvin Queen, Lenny white, Terri Lyne Carrington with the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective.
For the last three months of this turbulent year turned world history milestone, the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective (NLD IJC) will take up residence at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art to produce three unique, exclusive and highly innovative concert projects.
Three of the greatest African-American drummers in modern jazz will each lead their own concert alongside selected members of the NLD IJC to take us on a musical journey through jazz interpretations of repertoire and genres not previously translated through the lens of jazz.
On October 30th (2020) the legendary drummer Alvin Queen (formerly with Oscar Peterson, Horace Silver and George Benson) will host a program of Jazz/Takes on 1970s New York Punk with renditions of songs by Talking Heads, Television, Blondie, Patti Smith and The Ramones. This concert will also feature the spectacular French bass virtuoso, François Moutin, among others.
On November 27 (2020) we will submerge into Jazz/Takes on 1980s U.K. New Wave songs by The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths and Simple Minds. This concert will be led by the multi-Grammy Award-winning drummer Lenny White whose work with Miles Davis (on the groundbreaking 1969 album “Bitches' Brew”) and the iconic 1970s group Return To Forever (with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke) positions him as one of the founding fathers of jazz/fusion.
December 4 (2020) features the youngest and only female artist in the lot. With multiple Grammy Awards to her credit and past collaborations with a who’s-who in jazz (Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Stan Getz and numerous others), the prolific drummer, producer and former child prodigy Terri Lyne Carrington has this year alone so far been awarded Musician of the Year and Drummer of the Year by the US Jazz Journalist Association, and she has won Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Group of the Year from Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll. Her concert will feature Jazz/Takes on 1990s Seattle Grunge and songs by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam and Temple Of The Dog - alongside her close friends and contemporaries, pianist Niels Lan Doky and bassist Lars Danielsson plus, as a special guest, the Danish harmonica prodigy Mathias Heise.
The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective is an association of prolific musicians from Europe, North America and South America, devoted to presenting unique and exclusive jazz performances of which cannot be heard anywhere else. The collective is led by pianist Niels Lan Doky, whom the international press has hailed as “the best pianist of his generation” and “one of the most important pianists that European jazz has given us in the last 45 years”.

1980’ernes U.K. New Wave - koncert II
New Wave, med nyfortolkninger af sange af The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths og Simple Minds.
Se alle koncerterne her.
