Islandman represents a fictional character, a music persona, a dreamer composing the stories of a non existing place, born from the musical dream of Istanbul based musician/producer Tolga Böyük. On stage Islandman Is an electro-acoustic trio, with Böyük on electronics, vocals and guitar, Eralp Güven on percussion and Erdem Başer on guitar as well. Their music is a unique mix of mellow electronic structures and dance beats with spacey live guitars, backed up by shamanic rhythms. Their first single “Agit” (Requiem) from 2017 was also the piece that connected the band with the Danish label Music for Dreams, run by the renowned Danish DJ Kenneth Bager. After the successful liftoff, islandman released two full length albums and toured the world. Their new album “Kaybola” (which means to get lost to find a new way in Turkish), is composed of material from Japan to Bulgaria in compact electronic structures. Islandman brings Turkish Psychedelia or an African roots music reef together with a feeling of the electric universe. A universe compelling, inspiring and welcoming. Islandman byder på charmerende møder mellem tyrkisk psykedelisk spacefunk, drømmende elektroniske toner og live percussion. Den tyrkiske trio har netop udgivet nyt album på Music For Dreams, som har den legendariske danske DJ Kenneth Bager ved roret. Til oktober spiller Islandman deres første danske koncert på ALICE, og selv samme DJ Kenneth Bager står bag pulten i aftenens anledning.
Den tyrkiske sangskriver, producer og musiker Tolga Böyük har med sit projekt Islandman skabt en musikalsk persona, der fortæller historier fra det hinsides gennem drømmende spacefuck og tyrkiske psykedeliske toner. Live optræder Islandman som en elektro-akustisk trio med Böyük på vokal, elektronik og guitar, Eralp Güven på perussion og Erdem Başer på guitar. Spacy guitarfigurer og dansable beats flettes ind og ud af døsende elektroniske flader, med en solid bund af shamanistisk percussion.
Allerede efter deres første single “Agit” (Requiem) i 2017, vækkede Islandman opmærksomhed hos det danske label Music For Dreams, som har den legendariske DJ Kenneth Bager ved roret. Siden er det blevet til to fuldlængde studiealbums, nemlig “Rest In Space” (2018) og “Kaybola” (2020), som begge er udgivet på Music For Dreams. På “Kaybola” eksperimenterer Islandman med at bringe tyrkiske psych-traditioner, afrikansk roots og materiale fra Japan og Bulgarien sammen i et nyt elektrisk univers.
Islandman har spillet på internationale festivaler så forskellige som Cappadox, Sunbeat Festival, Apple Flower Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Monteux Jazz festival og Boom Festival. Noget der vidner om, at musikken rækker ud over snævre genre-bokse og at Tolga Böyük i den grad er lykkedes med sin mission om at skabe en bemærkelsesværdig samklang mellem forskellige musiktraditioner.
Islandman optræder i Danmark for første gang når de gæster ALICE til efteråret, og DJ Kenneth Bager står bag pulten i aftenens anledning.
