Nordafrika, Indien og Europa mødes i futuristisk og bastungt univers, når Ammar 808 gæster ALICE med det nye album “Global Control / Invisible Invasion”.

Med base i Bruxelles og rødder i Tunesien har producer Sofyann Ben Youssef dedikeret sit projekt Ammar 808 til at udforske et dansabelt felt mellem elektronisk futurisme, globale indflydelser og personlige rødder.

Med det trendsættende debutalbum “Maghreb United” (Glitterbeat, 2018) leverede han et inciterende soundtrack til den globale fest med en hypnotisk blanding af nordafrikansk musik og dybe grooves fra den legendariske Roland TR-808 trommemaskiner, som har inspireret bandnavnet. Lydbilledet var på én gang tungt og sprudlende, råt og fængende. Og det var et stensikkert hit på dansegulvet, samtidig med at musikken på én gang dyrkede en musikalsk arv fra Nordafrika og reflekterede over en turbulent samtid i hjemlandet Tunesien.

Sofyann Ben Youssef lader sig dog på ingen måde begrænse. Som den sande globale udforsker, han er, dykker han på det nye Ammar 808-album, “Global Control / Invisible Invasion”, ned i en sydindisk musikkultur, som atter mixes med egne kulturelle rødder og selvfølgelig TR-808 lyden. Kærligheden til det indiske er ikke en kortvarig flirt. Allerede som helt ung boede Ben Youssef flere måneder i Delhi, hvor han studerede både sitar og tablas. Og nu vender han altså tilbage til fascinationen af den indiske musik. Albummet er indspillet i Indien og er dybt inspireret af den karnatiske musik fra Sydindien, hvor vokalen er i centrum. Derfor har Ammar 808 denne gang også allieret sig med en række indiske vokalister som f.eks. Susha, der kan høres på åbningsnummeret og singlen “Marivere gati”.
